Earlier this month, we lost a dear friend. Colin Kiely was a violist for the Jacksonville Symphony and a regular performer for St. Augustine Music Festival. A husband and father of three, Colin lost his battle with cancer, but never lost his will to live. A music lover to the core (he listened to everything from Bach to Beck), Colin earned a bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from the University of Southern California and came to Florida after being recruited by the New World Symphony of Miami Beach where he earned the position of co-principal viola.
Armed with a philanthropic and charitable soul, Colin spent much of his time helping others and making Northeast Florida a better place to live. A never wavering Chicago Cubs fan, Colin was an athlete who loved running and spending time at the beach. Last summer, although Colin was weak from treatments, he was able to attend one of our 2018 SAMF concert performances with his wife, Amy. Together, the two sat toward the back of the Cathedral and silently took in the beauty of music – a language that brings all of humanity together.
Colin, we miss you dearly and you will be in our hearts forever.
