The Fleisher-Jacobson duo will perform during the first week of the 2017 festival! Leon Fleisher’s story is the stuff of legend. When his international concert career was side-tracked by a neurological condition that disabled his right hand, he reinvented his musicianship to become the world’s leading presenter of piano repertoire for the left hand alone.
He gained accolades as a conductor and is a revered teacher at the prestigious Peabody Institute in Baltimore. Advances in medical therapies restored the pianistic use of his right hand. His subsequent keyboard “comeback” includes a 2007 Kennedy Center Honors award, a Grammy-nominated CD and an Oscar-nominated documentary. In 2003, Fleisher joined forces with his wife, acclaimed pianist Katherine Jacobson, to form the Fleisher-Jacobson Piano Duo. They perform worldwide and their Sony Classical recordings include Mozart’s Concerto for Two Pianos, K. 242 with the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and the 2015 CD, Four Hands.
